Flight: Explorations in Movement, Migration and Freedom

Exhibition (for humanitarian purposes) – West Branch Gallery & Sculpture Park, Vermont, USA

Exhibition April 2, 2016 – June 26, 2016

100% of the commission from Syrian artworks and some other sales will be paid for the benefit of:
International Committee of the Red Cross in Syria and Yalla! Pour les Enfants

Gallery artists, local students, and notable Syrian artists interpret the concept of flight in this juried exhibition. This can be as simple as birds as the subject matter or an abstract painter’s expressionist representation of joyous movement, of airborne thought. Flight could also be concerned with the migration of hundreds of thousands of the Syrian people to freedom. There is no one interpretation.

West Branch has partnered with Khaled Youssef, a Syrian doctor, photographer, and co-founder of the not-for-profit, politically unaffiliated organizations Creative Havens: Syrian Artists and Their Studios‘ and ‘Syria Art – Syrian Artists‘, to make the upcoming exhibition, Flight: Explorations in Movement, Migration, and Freedoma reality.

His enthusiasm, sincerity, and personal connections to the Syrian art community, spread across international borders, have helped us to bring incredible works of emotionally powerful and socially conscious art to our small Vermont town. Here, Khaled speaks to us about the crucial role art plays in how we attempt to understand and relate to the triumphs and tragedies of human experience.
